Generally, treatment with fixed appliances takes between 18 and 24 months. This can be longer if severe bite issues are being addressed.

In addition to offering our patients the world-famous Invisalign® system to straighten their smiles, we can also treat orthodontic problems with traditional fixed braces.
These types of braces have stood the test of time but are now much more comfortable and cosmetically pleasing than in the past. Both of these designs work in the same efficient way to correct the structural imperfections with your teeth, but ceramic braces are more discreet.
Ceramic braces are made up of ceramic brackets and tooth-coloured wires, which means they blend in well with your teeth. Advances in technology mean that today’s ceramic braces are less susceptible to staining and discolouration, and we recommend ceramic braces to patients who wish to opt for fixed braces, but who would like to straighten their smile more discreetly. Ceramic braces deliver the same predictable results as traditional fixed braces.
As the fixed brace hardware is made just for you (the brackets and the wires), we will need to take digital scans of your teeth, so the dental lab can create it in the image of your smile. Once your brace has been fabricated, we can invite you back to have it fitted so you can begin your treatment.
We will let you know how often to come in for check-ups, during which we can adjust your brace as your teeth move into position.

Both fixed braces and Invisalign® yield consistent success stories for patients. However, patients who feel they might struggle with the discipline of wearing their aligners for the allocated time each day (in the case of Invisalign®) may want to consider a fixed brace.
One of the great benefits of ceramic braces is the level of comfort they offer. Their smaller rounded brackets and ceramic material mean there’s less chance of gum irritation and discomfort.
During your consultation, we will talk you through the finer details of both designs, so you can make an informed choice.
The reasons to straighten your teeth aren’t just confined to the amazing aesthetic result that’s achieved – although this is a significant one! Straightening the front teeth can also help reduce the amount of wearing down and chipping of your front teeth over time.
Having a straighter smile makes it easier to brush and floss, leading to better oral hygiene and dental health. The effects of treatment can also work wonders for your confidence levels – many patients find they’re more eager to smile day to day, particularly around other people.
